Hello,
Sep 20, 2011 yes. I erased everything. When i attempt to use it, there is nothing in any file. I called the company and they are saying they cannot help me and I would have to buy a new one. How to Reformat A Hard Drive for Mac: Step by Step Instructions. Published on October 20th. In this guide I will show you how you can properly format/reformat a hard drive for Mac OS. Formatting a hard drive for Windows will be discussed in another article. WD My Passport for Mac Portable External Hard Drive Storage USB 3.0.
I purchased a 'My Passport for Mac' a couple of years ago. My brother is an apple nerd, so he set everything up for me and told me that as long as the passport was connected, it would back up itself and I had nothing to worry about. It doesn't work anymore and I am frustrated. (my brother lives in LA and I am in FLA, so he can't really help.)
Anyway - recently my computer stopped backing up to the Passport. It would say 'verifiying/preparing to back up' and then 4-5 hr later it would tell me it couldn't back up. Today I decided that since it had been 120 days since my last backup it was important to fix this. I have been roaming around my computer looking for any clues of how to fix this issue. Using advice from the Time Machine HELP, I told my computer not to back up to My Passport for Mac. Now I cannot reconnect it and my computer cannot see it. I have unplugged it and rebooted 100 times, plugging it back in once my computer has rebooted and nothing seems to help. (I also cannot figure out how the icon for the Passport stays on my desktop when it is unplugged.)
Thru alot of button pushing, I found the disk utility feature. When I opened that, it sees My Passport for Mac and a few other options. It has a verify feature and a repair feature. I ran both on one of the My Passport for Macs, but there are more than one. I don't understand this as I only have ONE, but there they are. I am confused, but when I ran the repair on the My Passport for Mac that is one step under, it said it could not repair the disk and that I should back up immediately (which I cannot do, since that is the external harddrive I am supposed to back up to), and I should wipe the disk and reformat. I have NO IDEA how to do that, or if the data on my computer is safe until I get this figured out.
Can someone offer advice (in plain English, since I'm kind of a dummy when it comes to complex computer issues)?
